In both his sculptural work and drawings,
Michael Beatty explores the intersection of the systematic
and sensuous. Beatty's sculptures are evocative hybrids of
tool, biological form, vessel and spiritual container.
Beatty's work is represented in numerous
collections including the DeCordova Museum and the Fogg Art
Museum. He has exhibited widely in New England, most recently
with a solo show at the Barbara Krakow Gallery in 2003. Last
year he was co-recipient of the St. Boltoph Club Foundation
Award for Sculpture and completed a residency at the MacDowell
Colony where he began this series of
lathe-turned trees.
