The work is a comment on vernacular statuary
installed in American yards, which evolved out of the mid
nineteenth century when disposable income and leisure time
allowed people to devote time to ornamental gardens. This
also coincides with mass production, development of plastic
and the collection of very affordable unnatural "nature".
These pieces are cast or hand blown
glass taken back to original processes, connecting history
and infusing a new aura into the work. Placed in a garden
setting, the gazing globe reflects a small fantasy world created
in a new context.
